Mistakes to Avoid if You Just Got Your Teeth Whitened

Teeth whitening services are becoming more and more popular for today’s dental patients and just as with any other type of cosmetic treatment, it is important to understand the do’s and dont’s as far as getting the most out of them. Many times people are unaware of which activities and behaviors can have a negative impact on the overall results of their latest session (this is especially true for those do-it-at-homers, that’s why we recommend that you come see us).

To help you get a better idea of the things to steer clear from after your next teeth whitening, we came up with a couple of quick tips:

Consuming Dark Staining Liquids

While this might seem like an obvious no-no, there are many people who think nothing of drinking a soda, coffee, or tea within a short time of taking off the trays. When the whitening application is still freshly removed, the teeth are extremely susceptible to taking on the shade of foods and beverages that they come into contact with. These colored fluids need to be avoided until the recommended lapse of time.

Smoking

This is another killer of your recent whitening session. From the first puff of that cigarette you are immediately introducing a yellowish tint onto your freshly shined mouth. The generally accepted time frame for waiting until you smoke a cigarette after having a teeth whitening performed is at least twenty-four hours. In the meantime, moderate electronic cigarette use is considered acceptable.

To get the most out of your teeth whitening experience, come and see our qualified professionals that are trained to do much more than just follow the instructions off of the back of the box. You can call or stop by our office whenever you are ready.
